Belarus allows privatizing of “Belaruskali”

“Belaruskali” controls 15 percent of world exports of potash fertilizers. Exclusive seller of its products is “The Belarusian Potash Company”, which is owned by “Belaruskali” together with Russian Company “Uralkali” on an equal footing.

At the end of  May “Uralkali” reported that its owner, businessman Dmitry Rybolovlev,  is in talks about selling his share package of the  company.

The representative of the State Property Fund Natalia Zharnasek informed the press that assessment of “Belaruskali” has been already completed, but she refused to name its price.

"The only thing I can tell, the cost of fixed assets is very large, we never had the authorized fund of such a size" - she said.

In early May, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenka said in an interview to Reuters that Belarus does not rule out the possibility of selling a minority share package of “Belaruskali” to foreign investor, and the Ministry of Economy later confirmed that the government had begun an assessment of the company.

According to that law, from the list of facilities not subject to privatization, are also excluded oil product pipelines.
