Belarus to present logistic projects at investment forum in Germany

Belarus will present eight construction projects of future transport and logistic centers at the investment forum in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, Head of the Office for Strategic Development, Coordination and Investments of Transport Systems of the Belarusian Transport and Communications Ministry Pavel Bozhanov told reporters on 9 November.

The projects related to the development of logistics and motorway service will be presented at the forum scheduled for 17 November. Section No. 2 of the forum will demonstrate new opportunities opened by the Customs Union. The participants of the forum will be able to sign contracts and memorandums of intent. The section will be structured into four parts: transport, logistics, construction and tourism. Taking part in the forum will be Belgian company AOI NV. It will tell the participants about its experience of setting up a transport and logistics center at the National Airport Minsk.

One of the projects deals with the construction of a transport and logistics center in the town of Rakov. A Belarus-Lithuania joint venture has already launched construction works there, but other investors are also welcome. Another project estimated at about $500 million is implemented on the premises of Orsha Repairs Plant. The remaining transport and logistics centers are to be erected near the Airport Vitebsk, in the FEZ Grodnoinvest, in Gomel Oblast and Bobruisk.

Pavel Bozhanov noted that the Transport Ministry is running a program to set up transport and logistic centers in Belarus. Fifty land plots have been earmarked for logistic centers under the program. Less than half of them will be transport and logistics centers. At present, the construction works are proceeding only on ten construction sites. The facilities are on a different degree of completion. The construction of a transport and logistics center located on Mogilev highway has already been launched by an Iranian investor. Design and estimate documentation is being prepared for other facilities. Two projects are implemented by Beltamozhservice. “We will focus on the projects in transport logistics at the forum,” Pavel Bozhanov said. He added that the program has specified construction sites, not the centers. The participants of the forum will be informed about the particularities of these sites.

Three projects will be presented by the Minsk City Hall. A national exhibition center in Shchemyslitsa and two hotels (near the Belarus hotel and in the Chizhovka residential neighborhood) will be constructed in the run-up to the 2014 ice hockey world championship. There are plans to build a network of sports and recreation complexes in Minsk.
