Four hydropower plants to be built in Belarus in 2011-2015


In 2011-2015 Belarus plans to construct four hydropower plants with the total capacity of over 100MW, according to Belarus’ energy strategy through 2020. The text of the document approved by Council of Ministers’ Resolution No 1180 is available at the national legal portal, BelTA has learnt.

Under the document, two 63MW hydropower plants will be erected on the Western Dvina, in Polotsk and Vitebsk. The Grodno and Neman hydropower plants with the total capacity of 37MW will be constructed on the Neman river. The project also provides for the restoration of 10 existing small hydropower plants and the construction of 35 new. The estimated turbine output will make up 0.6 billion kilowatt-hour, equivalent to almost 205,000 tonnes of fuel equivalent.
